(Terra Alta) New children’s books and middle school science fiction, fantasy and history will all on tap in the Headline Books booth at the seventh annual West Virginia Book Festival Saturday and Sunday, October 13 & 14, at the Charleston, WV Civic Center. There will be fourteen authors on hand plus the 2nd & 4th graders from Franklin Elementary Center in Parkersburg, WV to sign copies of their new book, The Cat Has Class!
The Cat Has Class! and Veterans Reign in Their Own Parade by 5th Grade Rainelle Elementary, Rainelle, WV, are both featured titles from Headline Kids this year. These wonderful books were written by elementary students with well known children’s book authors Martin & Delia Wach. They are part of the Collaboration Book Program and these children have done a magnificent job! With the direction of a few special teachers, the team work it took for these books to be completed by the publisher’s deadline was unmatched. Not only are these kids published authors; they are in the news and in the Library of Congress! Stop by and meet these unusual and very talented children.
Headline Books announces the release of— The Day the Snapdragons Snapped Back by Hampshire County resident and teacher, Melinda Chambers. This is Chambers second book and it is beautifully illustrated by Jane Lew resident, Sue Ann Spiker. Also new on the children’s book scene is The Adventures of Casey the Lost Suitcase by Tracy Kincaid. Find out how Casey ends up much more traveled than his owner!
Teddy Bear Helps on the Farm, published by Headline Books and E.G. Bear Company in Parkersburg, W. Va., is a unique collection of short stories and activities written by the children of Appalachia to inspire others and is dedicated to the memory of Bob Evans. Under the direction of nationally known children’s book authors, Martin & Delia Wach and Jason Lynch of E. G. Bear Co., children from Appalachian Ohio and West Virginia schools and workshop attendees at the Mountain State Art & Craft Fair in Ripley, W. Va., provided stories and drawings for this engaging new book. The book will be released simultaneously at the Bob Evans Farm Festival, Saturday, October 13, at the original Bob Evans Farm in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Physical therapist Rusty McQuade will be on hand to sign copies of her newly released book, Stickyman Movements, and Rusty will be featured on the Gazette Stage at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Stickyman is a selection of simple exercises to help people of all ages maintain their strength, agility...and have fun doing it!
Ashley Teets, Preston High School senior and author of West Virginia State Government: A Kid’s View and Cat Tales, will be manning the children’s table. Stop by for coloring pages and face painting.
New titles for middle school age students will also be released at this year’s Book Festival. Don Stansberry will be on hand to sign his new book, Inky & the Missing Gold. This fanciful medieval novel will keep kids turning the pages! F. T. Pandora’s new science fiction thriller, Revenge, is already a hit with middle school kids. His main character, Chip, gets an unforgettable present on his 13th birthday. You won’t believe the adventure this present takes Chip and his friends on. Prospect Hill, by new author Kimberly Seigh, is also a new release and was inspired by Kim’s family history. From the aftermath of the Johnstown, PA Flood of 1889 to Lindbergh’s historic flight, Prospect Hill follows the intertwined lives of the Edelweiss family as young Crystal struggles to keep her family together and becomes an independent woman of the 1920’s.
Franklin Elementary will be signing books on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and also on Sunday from noon to 3:00 p.m.
Tracy Kincaid, Melinda Chambers, Rusty McQuade and Ashley Teets will be signing both days; 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 on Saturday and noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Don Stansberry and Kimberly Seigh will be signing copies of their new books on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.
“We hope folks will stop by to chat with these fascinating authors and check out our new releases. No purchase necessary!” said publishing president, Cathy Meyer-Teets. The company also will offer hourly drawings for prizes and there will be a coloring contest during the two day event.
