Subject: Rain Forest Adventures are coming to Miami and Waldenbooks!
(Terra Alta) Children’s book authors Martin and Delia Wach will be in the Miami area from September 3-17 speaking at schools and signing books at Waldenbooks, Westland Mall in Hialeah on September 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Wachs are in the top 2% of bestselling children’s book authors with their Teddy Bear Guardians of the Rain Forest books and are a favorite with the grade school set. These delightful children’s tales not only entertain but educate children about the importance of the Rain Forest, the environment, and— they introduce how to write and illustrate books.
As part of the Headline Kids School Show Program, Martin and Delia Wach bring the rich culture of the South American rain forests and interactive art to students from coast to coast with their latest book, The West Virginia Snow Adventure. Third in the series of Rain Forest adventures, this is a charming tale about the Teddy Bears in the Rain Forest smuggling themselves to a West Virginia school so they can see snow! This is a story Florida children can identify with! This latest volume was released at Book Expo America in Washington, D.C. in May.
In the early 90’s, a business trip took Martin to Suriname, South America and his projects there included the search for new medicines, aviculture, butterfly farming, poison dart frog research, and eco-tourism. He was introduced to the Maroon Medicine Man and lived with the Maroon Indians off and on for six years.
The Indians were marooned in Suriname over 300 years ago by their Dutch masters. Since the day they landed, the Maroons have fought for their freedom and have been nearly the sole protectors of our rain forests. It is only because the Maroons have been so feared that the Rain Forest still remains. The stories told by Martin Wach of their battles and bravery, their culture and social structure delight, inform and amaze all who listen.
Delia Wach is a highly acclaimed water color and mixed media artist who has fallen in love with painting Teddy Bears and their friends. She has created art work not only for individuals and Teddy Bear Manufacturers including two nominees for Golden Teddy awards; she has been the guest artist for many Teddy Bear events across the United States. Their experience with the Maroons is expressed through Delia’s imaginative art work as she turns the Maroon Indian personalities into Teddy Bears and together she and Martin weave the stories and paintings into a magical series of children’s books now available. Delia was recently been commissioned by the National Park Trust to do a painting of Senator John McCain and presented it to him in June at their Centennial Celebration of the American Antiquities Act of 1906 Awards luncheon.
The Wachs have a Bed & Breakfast, art museum, retail shop and botanical gardens in Davis, WV. Sought after and very popular speakers, they are dedicated to visiting school children to share their unique experiences and talents and have inspired many to attain goals of environmental protection, art and social consciousness. Their school program enhances the classroom and opens young minds to many possibilities and potential careers.
