From A Box of Crayons to a Digital Universe
New School Show Program from Headline Books
The Gnomon School of Visual Effects is available for your school through Headline Books now. A collaborative effort between Gnomon Workshops, Design Studio Press and Headline Books has resulted in a hands on art program for Junior High and High Schools throughout the country.Delia Wach, Headline Books author and illustrator, will be starting this program in the elementary grades with her art programs teaching students the basics of color and design using crayons and watercolors. By grade 6 and up, these students will be looking forward to the Gnomon Workshop program given by a talented college graphics art student. This is a wide open field and open to talented students. Our program will introduce the career possibilities with Design Studio Press and Gnomon Workshops.
Computer animated visual effects have exploded into the mainstream of the film, television, and video game industries over the last five years. The new digital toolsets can create photorealistic elements with greater flexibility and precision than their traditional counterparts; an ability which is expanding at an exponential rate. These tools are now represented at every major studio, from ILM and Sony Pictures Imageworks, to literally thousands of smaller studios worldwide.GNOMON opened its doors in 1997 to provide a solution for the lack of well-trained digital artists. High-end three-dimensional software packages are tools which have become incredibly deep and versatile. However, there is an unfortunate lack of well-designed, production-specific curriculums. The reasons for this are clear, as large educational facilities are not able to add the necessary facilities and courses as quickly as the toolsets change.
In conjunction with several major studios across Los Angeles, Gnomon's curriculum and facilities have been designed to constantly evolve to reflect any new demands that may arise from the entertainment industry. At no other school are the directors and instructors are more involved in the production process. They work and consult for studios such as DreamWorks, Disney, Rhythm & Hues, Industrial Light & Magic, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Sony Interactive, Digital Domain, Zoic Studios, Pac-Title/Mirage, Rock Star Games, and Blizzard.Gnomon is an innovative training facility that stresses the importance of creativity in computer graphics. We believe that, while technology offers new tools to create your visions, it is our ultimate goal to allow you to interact transparently with the software. At Gnomon we know that it is not the technology that drives results, but the artist. Therefore our instructors are industry professionals with traditional backgrounds who started using the technology to bring their imaginations to life. On display in our online gallery are examples of their work.
Gnomon has also incorporated traditional media 'Analog' and lecture series courses into our curriculum, which serve to complement the digital training which our students receive. In association with our Advisory Board and ADEPT, the Association of Digital Effects Production Trainers, we are working to provide the film, television, and game industries with well-rounded visual effects artists.
